Understanding what causes our hair loss could be the key to discovering exactly what it is we need in order to treat the condition. Prevention is always more effective that treating a condition after it has rooted itself, and we can help our whole bodies in the process.

Causes of Women's Hair Loss
There are all kinds of different causes of women's hair loss. Ladies today make up to a quarter of the total sufferers of varying forms of Alopecia, and by knowing what some of the causes are we can try to prevent excess thinning or improve our chances of keeping more of our hair for longer.

. Hormone imbalances
. Eating disorders
. Dieting drugs
. Some prescription drugs (for parkinsons disease or cholesterol-lowering drugs and anti-coagulants)
. Pregnancy and birth control pills - temporary loss of excess hair
. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
. Male Hormones
. Cancer treatments (chemotherapy) - temporary loss and thinning of the hair
. Genetics - usually a permanent loss or thinning
. Extreme stress and shock to the body

Preventing Hair Loss
We can't possibly tell what will happen in the future but one way of getting an idea of how our hair will prevail in years to come is by looking down your family tree. We can often tell by looking at the hair on our parents or grandparents as men's and women's hair loss is often passed down the family line through genetics.

Don't get me wrong, the so called 'miracle cures' don't exist, or they only do exist in the minds of the makers. Hair loss is a progressive condition that makes the hair on the head thinner over time, normally from the ages of forty to fifty, and once the follicles have weakened they are unable to support growing hairs. In some cases, as stated in the cause's paragraph, the loss of hair can be temporary and therefore hair growth can return to normal. Hair loss can be slightly improved, but not dramatically, unless you opt for cosmetic surgery - hair transplants are becoming more common.
Preventing hair loss is obviously a very good idea, but it is very simple. A balanced diet full of nutrients that your body needs on a daily basis is the key here. If you have an under or overactive thyroid, don't eat enough food or eat too much junk food, then you are well on your way to causing hair loss as the lack of nutrients plays a very important part in the way your body functions. Stress can cause hair loss, but sometimes not so directly - again, diet comes into play. When we are stressed some of us turn to convenience foods and some of us stop eating altogether because we 'don't have the time'.

Balanced Diet - a Natural Solution for Hair Loss
If you are not eating a healthy, balanced diet, your hair will eventually start to thin and your skin will look sallow and dry. Simply by ensuring your diet is enriched with all the necessaries: Fats (not saturated) and essential oils (Omega-III), vitamins and minerals (iron, protein, carbohydrates). They all need to be sensible amounts though so get advice if you are unsure. A good start would be to visit the FDA website (United States) or the NHS website (United Kingdom) in order to get the proper professional help. If you are more concerned about what your diet could be doing to your body, then see your Doctor. All of these sources can point you in the right direction if they cannot assist you directly.
